Women's Lacrosse Remains Undefeated at Home, Advances to NE10 Semifinals

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's lacrosse program remained undefeated at home this season with a Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinal victory over #7 Bentley Wednesday evening. The Panthers (16-1, 12-1 NE10) scored 12 goals in the first half en route to a 16-1 victory against the Falcons (8-9).

Jacqueline Jahelka put up a team-leading six goals, but was surpassed in the point column by Alison Johnson who was responsible for eight behind six assists and two goals. Five additional players were responsible for the other eight goals, as Ryley Weber was critical in the win, grabbing a season-high seven draw controls to get the offense started. Shea Weber tallied three caused turnovers and three ground balls combining with Jen Graham for three draw controls.

Scoring first for the Brown and Gold was Johnson just over a minute into the contest, sparking a four goal spurt in the opening five minutes of play. After a caused turnover courtesy of R. Weber and two shots from the Adelphi offense the hosts added two more in a matter of minutes to extend the lead to six. The Panther defense kept the Falcon defense out of their offensive zone until the 22:32 mark, for Bentley's first successful clear. Jahelka netted her 56th goal of the season with under a minute left in the opening frame to push the #2 Panthers to a 12-0 lead at the half.

Coming out of the break Jahelka and Kate Beier connected for the first goal of the second half and Scannell quickly added another before the Falcons were able to respond. Ciara Morley converted a free position shot at the 20:35 mark to cut into the host lead, however it was too much to overcome for #7 Bentley. Johnson had a hand in each of the final two tallies, with a goal and assist as the clock expired with a 16-1 decision in favor of Adelphi.

The home team held a 37-7 advantage in shots and won 13 of 18 draw controls, but Lauren Ochs and Eliza Bresler combined for 10 saves in goal for the visitors.

The Panthers will advance to their eighth straight NE10 semifinal and will play the winner of #3 New Haven/#6 Assumption on Saturday, May 6. The remainder of the conference tournament final four will be held at top-seed Le Moyne College.
