Garden City, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University baseball team pounded out 14 runs on 15 hits in its regular season home finale on Wednesday to defeat the Warriors of Nyack College, 14-4.
Adelphi (24-21) scored 10 or more runs for the ninth time this season, and used a pair of five-run innings to put the game out of reach early. Eight different players drove in at least one run for the Brown and Gold, with
Brett Malm opening the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning.
Also driving in a pair were
Eric Hassell and
Tyler Becker, with
Lucas Terwilliger having a 4-5 day at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
Steven Withers extended his season-long hitting streak to 22 games with a first-inning single, as he was one of 11 Panthers to record the total of 15 hits on the day. Adelphi's five-run first was followed up by a five-run fourth which made the score 11-3, in which Hassell,
Thomas Colombo,
Michael Stack and Zach Levinson all drove in runs.
Daniel Lotito got the start for Adelphi, threw four innings to begin the game and struck out four, before the combination of
Tom Ambrosino,
Matthew O'Connor and
Michael Demarest combined for four innings of scoreless relief. After going 1-3 with a run scored, a walk and an RBI at the plate, shortstop Stack came in for his first career appearance on the mound, and struck out one in the ninth.
The two teams combined to leave 22 runners on base, as the Warriors (23-19) managed 12 total hits to go along with their four runs.
The Panthers close out the regular season this weekend, with a three-game series at second-place Le Moyne College. The series begins with a 12 pm double-header on Saturday.
