Vadala Takes Back-to-Back Wins In NE10 Sweep of Bentley

Waltham, Mass. - The Adelphi University softball team used the arm of Jessica Vadala and hot bats throughout the lineup to propel them to two shutout victories over Bentley University Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (20-11-1, 11-4 NE10) put up 19 hits through both games en route to a 9-0 win in game one and a 3-0 victory in the second set over the Falcons (4-11, 0-4 NE10).

Offensively, the Brown and Gold were led by the trio of the two-three-four batters in the lineup, who totaled 11 of the team's total hits on the afternoon. Nicole Camera went 4-for-5 at the plate and drove in four runs as Brenna Martini posted a 5-for-7 performance at the plate with three RBI -- both were responsible for home runs in the sweep. Nicoletta Cuccio was 4-for-8 at the dish, scoring twice.

Game 1
Three scoreless innings went by in the opener before Cuccio singled up the middle advancing Krista King to home for the first Panther run of the game. Maintaining a hot top of the third, Martini and Camera stroked back-to-back homers as they extended the visitors' lead to four. The home team made attempts with two hits in the entirety of the first, but couldn't string anything together to put up a run.

Elisabeth Berard and Emily Turney reached in the top of the fourth inning to be driven in on a Cuccio single. Martini singled in the next at-bat, plating Cuccio to give Adelphi a 6-0 lead. Efforts from the trio added runs in the sixth for the Panthers, ending the game due to run-rule regulations.

After Lindsay Mapes handed off pitching duties after three innings, Vadala got the win thanks to three scoreless frames, as she improved to 5-1. The two each held their opponent to single hits, totaling two for the game.

Game 2
Camera set the tone for the offense in the second contest of the afternoon and also contributed in the circle en route to her second save of the season. She hit a home run in the top of the first, scoring both her and Martini, who reached on a two-out triple. Starting the game with two runs on the board, Camera challenged the Falcons with a double to right field in the top of the third, plating King who made it by way of an infield single. The Falcons remained scoreless, despite hits, but none resulting to break the zeros across the board.

Vadala, who closed out game one, earned the start in the second and tossed 5.0 innings allowing just one hit to pick up her second win of the afternoon. Camera came in for two innings of scoreless relief, striking out one.

Adelphi returns to action in North Easton, Mass. on Sunday, April 9 when they take on Stonehill College in an NE10 doubleheader beginning at noon.
