Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Purdie Nets 2OT Gamewinner, Men's Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten in NE10

Manchester, N.H. - Ian Kirby connected with Gordon Purdie, Jr. under two minutes into double overtime to secure an 11-10 victory for No. 3 Adelphi men's lacrosse over Saint Anselm Wednesday evening.

Brendan McDougal collected a career-high 18 saves in goal for the Panthers (8-1, 6-0 NE10), including three through the fourth quarter, sending the teams to overtime. Michael Osmundsen paced the offense with four goals as Kirby also finished with four points, behind one goal and three assists. Mark Andrejack posted a 14-25 mark at the faceoff for the Brown and Gold, scooping eight ground balls along the way. Eight different players scored for the hosting Hawks (4-3, 3-2 NE10), with two of those players accounting for two goals apiece.

Saint A's got on the board first two minutes into the game, but Adelphi responded with an Osmundsen goal nearly 30 seconds later. The Panthers extended their lead to two on lone goals from Shane deBoer and NE10 Rookie of the Week Nicolas Racalbuto. The hosts managed to sneak in back-to-back goals of their own before the first quarter expired to be in a deadlock with Adelphi.

The second frame went by in the same fashion, this time the hosts tallying one more goal than their opponents to hold the lead as the teams broke for the locker room. McDougal collected majority of his saves in this frame, totaling 13 in the first half alone. Chris Racalbuto and Osmundsen were responsible for the first two goals of the third quarter, which put the advantage back in the visitors' favor at 7-6. Anthony Busconi of the Hawks had a hand in each of the following goals (two assists, one goal) for the home team as they swung momentum back to their favor with a two-goal cushion headed into the final 15 minutes of regulation.

At 10:16 in the last frame John Arcidiacono put in an unassisted goal which evened the score at nine-all but once more Saint Anselm pushed ahead courtesy of an unassisted shot from Mark Vitello. DeBoer and Osmundsen connected for the final tally of regulation, sending the team to their first overtime of the season.

Both goalies had a save in the first overtime, despite three shots from each side forcing a second four-minute period. The Panthers lost the opening faceoff but strong defense allowed Tyler Regnier to cause a turnover and grab the ground ball to move back into their offensive territory. After a timeout called from Head Coach Gordon Purdie, Kirby found Purdie Jr. who buried a shot past Lucas DeAngelo (4-3) to win their seventh consecutive contest.

Adelphi heads to Franklin Pierce on Saturday, April 8 looking for their seventh NE10 victory. The teams face off at noon on Sodexo Field.
