Rindge, NH- The Adelphi University women's lacrosse program powered to a 20-2 victory in their finale regular season road game at Franklin Pierce University Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers (14-1, 11-1 NE10) scored 19 goals in the opening half, with a team-leading effort of eight points from
Alison Johnson.
In addition to a hat trick from Johnson she added four helpers, as three other teammates registered the same.
Casey Zalewski posted a game-high four goals, as
Ryley Weber led with three won draw controls. Senior attacker
Kate Beier was responsible for two goals, reaching a career milestone of 100 goals.
Highlighted by seven different scorers, the Panthers jumped out to a 10-0 lead within the opening ten minutes of play at Sodexo Field. Freshman
Kole Pollock was responsible for a hat trick in that time, scoring the opening goal and the tenth. With 16:21 left on the clock the Ravens (7-7, 5-7 NE10) finally got on the board, as Caitlin Sweeney connected with Anna Wilbert for her 24th goal of the season.
Beth Ann Pierce added her second nearly a minute later to spark the second scoring spree for the visitors, en route to the visitors registering nine unanswered over a 15-minute span. Beier's second goal of the contest, which pushed the Adelphi lead to 13, marked her 100th career tally and her 34th of the season. Zalewski scored back-to-back times under the four-minute mark and
Chelsea Abreu netted the last of the half, making it a 19-1 game.
The second frame opened up with a goal from the hosts, as Briana Sweeney found a way past
Hailey Peterson. The Brown and Gold committed seven turnovers but were a perfect 5-5 in clear attempts in the half, holding an advantage in nearly every other category after the first-frame offensive outburst.
Allison Schneider found Zalewski for the final tally of the contest as Adelphi turned away Franklin Pierce by a 20-2 final.
Adelphi women's lacrosse will close out the regular season with their final home game on Saturday, April 29 when they host Saint Anselm College. Prior to the contest, the team will celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class of 2017. Opening draw control is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
