Santiago Hurls Another Gem as Baseball Splits with AIC

Springfield, Mass. -- The Adelphi University baseball team split the first of two double-headers with the American International College Yellow Jackets on Saturday, earning an 8-2 win in game one before falling in the night cap, 4-2.

Game 1
TJ Santiago ran his scoreless streak to 19.0 innings with eight scoreless to help Adelphi (21-16, 11-7 NE10) win the opener. The senior scattered six hits across his outing, walking one and striking out six.

Adelphi took the lead in the third inning on back-to-back doubles by Steven Withers and Brett Malm to drive in three runs. The Brown and Gold's lead expanded to 5-0 in the fifth on a Yellow Jackets; error that scored Withers and a two-out single by Michael Cattani that scored Robert Vani. Adelphi's final three runs came in the eighth as the team played small ball, racking up two RBI infield singles and scoring the third run on a wild pitch.

Game 2
Two runs in the bottom of the fifth for host AIC (12-22, 6-12 NE10) against Mattew O'Connor decided the game, after Adelphi had previously tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the inning on a Michael Stack ground-rule, RBI double.

Though Adelphi had the leadoff man on in the sixth and seventh before chipping away with a run in the eighth on a Vani sacrifice fly, the Panthers were unable to get any closer as the Yellow Jackets earned the split.

The Panthers and Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, April 23 for the second double dip of the weekend. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
