Albany, N.Y. - Behind the six-goal effort of Nicolas Raclabuto, the No. 5 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team routed the College of Saint Rose Tuesday afternoon by a 13-5 decision.
The Panthers (11-2, 9-1 NE10) were led by Racalbuto along with contributions from six other teammates.
Gordon Purdie, Jr. accounted for two goals and finished with three points after adding an assist, while also grabbing two ground balls.
Mark Andrejack was 14-for-18 at the faceoff and
Brendan McDougal collected nine saves in his eleventh victory this season.
Adelphi slowly got things started as the teams' first two goals of the contest came in the last minute of the first quarter.
Michael Osmundsen first got the Panthers on the board and N. Racalbuto recorded his first of the game seven seconds later to take a 2-0 lead. The second quarter was more evenly matched as the hosts came back with three goals to tie it but the visitors still managed two tallies to hold a one-goal lead at the half.
N. Racalbuto scored the last in the second and the first two in the third quarter to quickly extend the Brown and Gold lead to three, sparking a seven goal run for the fifth-ranked Panthers. The home team was held scoreless in the opening and third quarters, as the visiting team commanded much of the action in their offensive end. In clear attempts for the game the home team was only 19-23 and as Adelphi saw all good clears except two.
Carter Badour of Saint Rose attempted to get things started in the final 15 for his team, however one goal for the Golden Knights turned into three straight for Adelphi, who even added a man-up goal courtesy of
John Arcidiacono. The last tally for AU, despite an impressive 12 shots on goal in the last frame came from
Matthew Dluginski, for his second of the season on an assist from
Quintin McKenna. The hosts put up a late, sub-minute goal but the damage had already been done as they fall to 1-8 in conference play.
Adelphi men's lacrosse hosts No. 2 Le Moyne College on Saturday, April 22 in conjunction with their alumni and senior day celebrations. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. as the scheduled second game of our lacrosse doubleheader. The women's program will host Assumption College starting at noon on Motamed Field.
