Softball Shut Out by Le Moyne, 3-0, in First of Three-Game Set

Garden City, N.Y. -- Limited to just three hits thanks to a brilliant performance by Le Moyne's Alexis Eastman, the Adelphi University softball team dropped the first of a three-game Northeast-10 Conference series to the visiting Dolphins, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Le Moyne tagged Lindsay Mapes, who had matched Eastman all game in the circle, for a run in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, as both pitchers were perfect through the lineup the first time through. Nicole Camera recorded two of Adelphi's three hits off Eastman, while Krista King had the other, as the Dolphins' starter struck out 11 in the complete game victory.

Mapes surrendered her first hit of the game to Dolphins' leadoff hitter Courtney Case in the fourth, who stole second with one out to put the first runner in the game in scoring position, and duly came around to score on a two-out double by Peyton Bellrose. Camera broke up Eastman's perfect game with a leadoff single in the fifth, but she was erased on a line-drive double play to send the 1-0 game to the sixth.

Case was in the middle of things once again in the sixth, as she stroked a leadoff double and came around to score on an Adelphi fielding error, but Mapes limited the damage from there to put Adelphi back on offense down 2-0. The Brown and Gold had two runners on for the first time against Eastman in the sixth, as pinch-hitters Emily Turney worked a one-out walk and Megan Lewis singled, but Eastman struck out Nicoletta Cuccio to keep the shutout in tact.

After adding a third run on two singles and two walks in the top of the seventh, Le Moyne saw three Panthers reach base in the bottom of the inning as Camera singled and Lauren Sandelier and Danielle Cutuli both walked to put the tying runs on base. Nonetheless, Eastman finished with a flourish, recording a popout to second base for her 11th win of the season.

The Panthers and Dolphins will play a double-header tomorrow, Sunday, April 2 to close out the three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 12 pm.
