Springfield, Mass. - Ten different members of the No. 1 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team scored en route to an 18-0 victory Wednesday afternoon over American International College in the team's Northeast-10 Conference opener.
Jacqueline Jahelka and
Michele Scannell both chipped in hat tricks for the Brown and Gold (3-0, 1-0 NE10), as teammate
Alison Johnson finished with five points behind two goals and three helpers. Following suit, rookie
Kole Pollock was responsible for four points, which included one goal and three assists. The team won 17 draw controls, with
Shea Weber collecting a team-leading four.
The Panthers took one shot before scoring their first goal, when
Kate Beier and Pollock connected at 26:49. Johnson added her first of the contest in the next minute on a free position shot, followed by a goal from Scannell, giving Adelphi an early 3-0 lead. Just before the first half ended, Johnson found
Casey Zalewski to put the running clock into effect, with a commanding 10-goal advantage.
Three minutes passed in the second frame before Scannell tacked on another and
Alyssa Gillespie joined in on the scoring spree with a man-up goal after a yellow card was issued to AIC's (1-2, 0-1 NE10) Allison Roy. The Adelphi defense held the Yellow Jacket offense to just one shot through both halves, spending majority of the contest in their offensive territory. The visitors also held the upper hand in draw controls, winning 17 compared to the hosts three.
Goalkeeper Alexis Torosian for AIC, despite the loss collected 10 saves. Adelphi's
Hailey Peterson only faced one shot resulting in a tally in the save column. With just five minutes left on the clock
Alison Stackpole netted her second career goal unassisted and
Chandley Borges scored her first collegiate goal with nearly two minutes to play, capping the 18-0 victory.
Up next for Adelphi women's lacrosse, the Panthers get back on the road for an NE10 contest featuring Saint Michael's College on Saturday, March 18.
