Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 10 Men's Lacrosse Handles Assumption, 14-4

Garden City, N.Y. - Behind the six-point effort of Ian Kirby, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team cruised to a 14-4 victory over Assumption College Wednesday evening in Northeast 10 Conference action.

The Panthers (4-1, 2-0 NE10) were led by Kirby, who scored three times and added three helpers as Nicolas Racalbuto registered a hat trick of his own. Gordon Purdie, Jr. finished the game with a couple of goals and two assists for four points as six additional team members each added a solo goal. Goalkeeping duties were split between Brendan McDougal, Dan Marino and Nicholas Badaracco, as the three combined for 12 saves, Marino leading the way with seven.

Mark Andrejack stayed hot in the faceoff, going 14-for-19 through four quarters. Adelphi got on the board early in the first frame when Shane DeBoer found a way past Colby Hamwey. Neither team scored again despite several attempts at each goal until the 4:31 mark when the Panthers put up back-to-back goals to take a 3-0 lead. Assumption responded with a lone goal courtesy of Aidan Murphy before the frame came to a close.

The second quarter was a back and forth affair for both sides, with the Panthers holding and 8-3 advantage in shots. Racalbuto put in his first goal of the game with seconds remaining in the first half, giving the hosts a three-goal lead headed into the break.

Coming out of the break the home team turned up the scoring, netting six goals to the Greyhounds (0-2, 0-2 NE10) one. The lone Assumption goal happened at the 9:10 mark, with an unassisted shot from Brett Jennings, but the visitors still trailed by four. With just as many minutes left in the quarter, the Panthers rattled off four more goals to end the frame with an eight-goal cushion. The Blue and Grey scored first in the last quarter, but John Arcidiacono and Chris Racalbuto each registered a goal to keep their opponents at bay. Nick Reisig wanted in on the action and was able to make it a 10-goal game with his goal at 1:58, his first of the season.

The Adelphi men's lacrosse team is back in action on Saturday, March 11 with a noon contest against the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY.
