Eleven Players Score for No. 10 Men's Lacrosse in 21-2 Victory Over AIC

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse program posted a season-high 21 goals in their Northeast 10 Conference opener against American International College Saturday afternoon, taking a 21-2 victory to open league play.

Leading the offense for the No. 10 Panthers (3-1, 1-0 NE10) with four goals in the win was rookie Quintin McKenna, who also added a helper to finish with five points. Ian Kirby, Nicolas Racalbuto and Michael Osmundsen all recorded hat tricks, while Gordon Purdie Jr. accounted for four points behind two goals and two assists. Brendan McDougal, Dan Marino and Nicholas Badaracco all spent time in goal for the Brown and Goal, combining for three saves, as the visitors only managed to get five shots on goal. AIC's (0-6, 0-2 NE10) Matt Sayegh collected 16 saves through four quarters, as the hosts put up 37 shots on goal.

Mark Andrejack, who went 16-17 in the faceoff X connected with Purdie in the early going to get Adelphi on the board less than 30 seconds into the contest. After several failed clear attempts from the Yellow Jackets, Purdie netted another one this time from Chris Lopez. The hosts netted three straight goals within a minute to take a 6-0 lead and completed the quarter with an eight-goal cushion.

Shane DeBoer found Racalbuto five minutes into the second frame to extend the home team lead, but the team added three more before the half ended, with two assists courtesy of John Arcidiacono. AIC was held to just six shots in the first half alone, compared to Adelphi's 33. With an 18-0 lead halfway through the third, the visiting Yellow Jackets finally got on the board when Will Lewis found a way past Badarraco to end the shutout.

In the last 15 minutes, the visitors netted their second and final goal of the game when John Magliano scored in a man-up possession, off a pass from Kevin Papineau. Before time expired Adelphi added three more goals, from the sticks of Matt Byrne, Chris Lopez and Kyle Cropsey -- all first goals of the season. The last time the Panthers scored 20-plus goals in a victory dates back to last season when they defeated SNHU, 21-8 on March 19.

The men's lacrosse program is back in action on Wednesday, March 8 when they host Assumption College in NE10 action. Opening faceoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Motamed Field.

NOTES
- In the most recent USILA poll, Adelphi moved up two spaces to rank No. 10.
- After the next home game, the Panthers do not return to their home field until April 1, when they host NE10 powerhouse Merrimack College.
