Winning Streak Ends at Six as Softball Tripped Up by New Haven

West Haven, Conn. --  The Adelphi University softball team came into Wednesday's doubleheader looking to extend a season-best six-game win streak on the road against New Haven, having split two games when the Chargers came to Janet L. Ficke Field last week. Nonetheless, it was the home Chargers who took two wins on the afternoon, taking the opener in walk-off fashion 4-3, before winning game two 5-2.

Game 1
After a scoreless two innings in the first game, Fallon McCarthy kicked off the top of the third with a single to right field with Kristin Fealy subbing in as a pinch runner before Nicoletta Cuccio opened the scoring with a RBI single. The rally continued with a RBI double by Brenna Martini, before a Nicole Camera RBI single capped off a three run inning, taking the lead for the Panthers (12-10-1, 5-3 NE10).

New Haven (13-5, 5-1 NE10) answered in the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the sixth, as Tori Schiebe drove in two, before tying and winning the game in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, an RBI infield single by Taylor Luzzi scored Sierra Whitlock to tie the game 3-3, before another single and a game-winning fielder's choice led to the Charger victory.

Game 2
After Fealy cruised through three innings, New Haven managed to break through in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs on three total hits. After Kailah Konkel led off with a single, she later scored on a New Haven fielding error in the top of the sixth, as Adelphi looked to chip away at New Haven lead.

Nonetheless, New Haven added two insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth on two doubles and a single to make it a 5-1 game. The comeback effort continued for Adelphi in the top of the seventh with a leadoff solo home run by Megan Lewis, before Konkel stroked a two-out single, but ultimately, the Panthers fell short to New Haven.

The team will return to action on the road, Thursday, March 30 as they take on Molloy College in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
