Garden City, N.Y. - With six points behind five goals and one helper,
Jacqueline Jahelka led the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to their sixth consecutive win Saturday afternoon over Bentley University.
The Panthers (6-0, 4-0 NE10) had two players earn hat tricks in Jahelka and
Kole Pollock, the latter finishing with four points as she added an assist.
Casey Zalewski and
Chelsea Abreu each added two goals of their own as three other players made up the difference.
Shea Weber contributed in all other areas, collecting four draw controls, four ground balls and causing four turnovers along the way. The Falcons (1-5, 0-3 NE10) struggled as the hosts put up 11 caused turnovers in the win.
Pollock connected with Zalewski just under six minutes after the start to get the home team on the board. Jahelka followed nearly a minute later with back-to-back goals that put the Panthers up 3-0 just ten minutes into the game. Scoring halted over the next seven minutes for both teams, the Falcons committing several turnovers despite good clear attempts. Pollock registered her hat trick in the first half, but not before Abreu netted her third of the season as Adelphi held a 7-0 lead going into the break.
After opening the second half with a goal from
Kate Beier, the home team padded the score with two more to make it running clock for the remaining 25 minutes of the Northeast 10 contest. At the 24:29 mark, Michelle Scannell bolted down field after winning the draw control and shot past Lauren Ochs for the 10-0 lead. Rookie
Alyssa Gillespie and Abreu were responsible for the final two goals of the game, capping the 15-0 victory.
In goal for Adelphi
Hailey Peterson collected five saves, including several one-on-one attempts and free position shots from Bentley. Overall the Brown and Gold held an advantage in every category, with a 33-9 shot advantage and three more won draw controls than their opponents.
The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 29 for a road trip to Southern Connecticut State University. First draw control is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
