Garden City, N.Y. - With five-point efforts from
Michele Scannell,
Alison Johnson and Northeast 10 Rookie of the Week
Kole Pollock, the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team picked up a 17-3 victory against Stonehill College Tuesday evening. The win improves the hosts to a spotless 5-0 record as the visitors dip to 3-3 this season.
Pollock netted three goals and added two helpers to finish with five on the evening as Scannell was responsible for four goals and one assist with Johnson rounding out the top three with five assists. Next in line with one more than a hat trick was
Kate Beier as both
Casey Zalewski and
Jacqueline Jahelka chipped in a pair.
Shea Weber and Scannell nearly captured all 11 draw controls, each taking home five apiece.
Stonehill's Elizabeth Vetter and Jennifer Wheaton both notched goals to open the half, taking a 2-0 lead over the top-ranked Panthers. Quickly turning momentum however, the home team rattled off six unanswered goals over the next ten minutes to claim the lead with a four-goal advantage. Under the two-minute mark the Skyhawks struck again, cutting the lead in half but Johnson and Beier connected to extend the lead back to four as the teams broke for halftime.
Beier collected her hat trick less than two minutes into the second and Scannell and Pollock each added goals before five minutes passed.
Beth Ann Pierce added her second of the season at the 24:12 mark with Zalewski adding one more before scoring stalled for either team. Nearly ten minutes went by without either team finding a way past the goalkeepers, despite several shots from both sides.
The Panthers, who managed to find themselves in a man-down situation (during running clock), added back-to-back goals courtesy of Pollock and Jahelka. With ten minutes remaining in the contest, Adelphi maintained control in their offensive end, adding three more before time expired, all assisted by Johnson. As a team, the hosts outshot their opponents 28-9, scooped up more ground balls (16-9) and committed five less turnovers than the Skyhawks.
Adelphi women's lacrosse returns to NE10 action on Saturday, March 25 when they host Bentley University at 1:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
