Garden City, N.Y. -- Scoring at least 10 runs for the fifth time this season, the Adelphi University baseball team defeated the LIU Post Pioneers, 10-3, on William J. Bonomo Field on Tuesday.
Zack Levinson's two-run double in the second inning gave Adelphi a lead it would never relinquish, as he finished 3-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Also driving in a pair for the Brown and Gold was
Brandon Morse, while
Steven Withers and
Brett Malm both had two hits.
A two-run homer for Thomas Asbaty gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead in the second, after Adelphi led 1-0 on an RBI double from Malm in the first, but the Panthers hit back for a three-spot against Robert Paccione in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good. Levinson's two-out, two-run double cashed in an inning in which Adelphi was the beneficiary of two hit batters and a walk, while Withers cashed in the fourth run with a single.
Adelphi added three more in the third, taking advantage of two Pioneer miscues, seeing the inning highlighted by an RBI double from
Robert Vani. With no scoring in the fourth, Malm and Morse combined for another Adelphi run, as the former led off with a double and was driven in by the latter, before
Eric Hassell, who walked in between, scored the Panthers' ninth run on a passed ball. The Brown and Gold capped off scoring in the sixth, as Levinson led off with a single and came around to score unearned on the Pioneers' third error of the contest.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday, March 23 when they take on the Molloy Lions in a 4 pm single game at Mitchell Field in Uniondale, N.Y.
