No. 8 Men's Lacrosse Falters Against Lynn University, 9-7

Boca Raton, Fla. - The No. 8 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team continued their southern swing with a morning matchup against Lynn University on Saturday. Despite holding a 4-3 lead at the half, the Panthers (1-1) dropped a 9-7 final decision to the Fighting Knights (2-0).

Leading the Adelphi offense was Michael Osmundsen, who chipped in two goals and one assist as five other players each chipped in a goal apiece. As a team the Panthers were outnumbered in shots (41-33), ground balls (30-24), and faceoffs (10-9). Brendan Mcdougal was responsible for 10 saves in goal through 60 minutes of action. Mark Andrejack appeared most in the faceoff X, finishing the afternoon at 9-for-17.

The Panthers were left trailing after the first quarter of action, despite both teams multiple attempts at goals through the first 15 minutes. Lynn was able to get on the board with eight seconds to play to take a 1-0 lead. Adelphi ws able to even the score with a Chris Racalbuto goal in the opening 60 seconds and took the lead nearly a minute later with Osmundsen's first goal of the afternoon. A slashing penalty at 10:38 against the Fighting Knights allowed Shane DeBoer to find a way past Collin McCelland to make it 3-1 in favor of the visitors. Osmundsen's second goal came with just seconds to play before both teams broke for the half, giving Adelphi the one-goal advantage heading into the locker room.

Lynn came out firing in the third frame, regaining their lead and outscoring the Brown and Gold 4-2 over 15 minutes. Adelphi managed to work a two-goal advantage after back to back shots courtesy of John Arcidiacono and Ian Kirby, but three unanswered goals from the hosts put them back on top with one quarter left to play.

The Panthers evened the playing field at 7-7 on a goal from Michael Papach to start the last frame. Howver, the home team put through two straight goals within a minute of each other and then put up strong defense forcing Adelphi to commit turnovers and miss shots, resulting in a 9-7 victory.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, February 25 when they host LIU Post in regional action. First faceoff is scheduled for noon at Motamed Field.
