Wilmington, Del. - Despite hitting the triple-digit mark on the scoreboard for the second time this year, and a triumphant performance by Jack Laffey, the Adelphi University men's basketball team ultimately fell to Goldey-Beacom in non-conference action in Delaware on Saturday evening, 113-111.

Laffey concluded the night with a career-best 42 points of 15-of-21 from the floor, shooting 65% from behind the arc (11-for-17), and claiming a new school record in made triples for a single game. The previous record was nine, set last season by Laffey's teammate, Michael Coffey. Despite the career-best effort from the junior guard, Adelphi let an eight-point halftime lead slip, falling for the sixth time in eight road contests this year.

Other key contributors for the Panthers (4-8) in double figures were Coffey (19), Austin Beech (13), and Tavon Ginyard (10), as the 111-point output was the most Adelphi's scored in a single game in 15 years, dating back to a 112-66 win over Concordia on Jan. 30, 2002. Ginyard posted a double-double with a career-high 13 assists, but Adelphi was largely unable to contain a monster effort from the Goldey-Beacom (5-6) combo of Corey Taite and Marcellus Livingston, who combined for 70 points.

The Panthers came out in the first half with the scoring touch, tallying the first 10 points and 17 of the first 19, to establish an early lead in the game. For the next 10 minutes, both teams traded baskets with Goldey-Beacom gaining a foothold, leading to the Panthers' first timeout with nine and a half minutes left in the half.

At that point, Adelphi held a 30-17 lead, and the advantage remained in double figures until the waning minute of the half. Taite tallied the last five points of the frame for the host Lightning, whittling the deficit for his team to just eight points -- the lowest it had been since Adelphi began the game on its scoring streak.

To start the second 20 minutes, Coffey kick-started the Brown and Gold's effort, nailing a three-pointer 13-seconds into the second half. However, Goldey-Beacom responded with a 15-0 run, taking the lead for the first time in the contest on a Livingston triple which made it 66-65.

Laffey's best efforts attempted to keep the hosts at bay, as a trio of triples from his hand helped restore Adelphi's lead to two possessions at 74-69, but the hosts continued to match Adelphi's output, leading to a total of seven ties over the next 10 minutes. 

Over the course of the action, a layup by Laffey surpassed his previous career-best (35 points) while also putting the Brown and Gold back ahead, 93-91. A 9-3 run by the Lightning helped Goldey-Beacom hit the triple-digit mark with 4:44 left on the clock, but two more three-pointers from Laffey helped him snag the program record while simultaneously allowing the Panthers to pull even and break the century mark themselves at 102-102. 

The junior's final triple gave Adelphi its last lead at 105-103, but his ensuing fifth foul sent him to the bench with 1:50 remaining, as Taite sank a pair from the line to tie the game and begin a 6-0 spurt which helped the home team take the lead for good. The Brown and Gold had one last chance to tie the game as the buzzer, as Conor McGuinness missed the second of two free throws, but Terrel Martin-Garcia couldn't get a good look at the game-tying tip-in as time expired.

The road swing continues for Adelphi, which plays its last three games of the 2017 calendar year on the road, on Tuesday at local foe, Molloy College at 7 p.m.
