Rockville Centre, N.Y. - With their third triple-digit effort this season, the Adelphi men's basketball team took down Molloy College Tuesday evening in non-conference action with a 110-77 victory.
Despite losing three of their last four, the Panthers (5-8) used double-figure performances from seven different players in the win, with all starters posting 12 points or better.
Michael Coffey led the way with 23 points - 20 of which came in the first half alone - followed by
Terrel Martin-Garcia who had 19 off the bench.
Austin Beech and
Jack Laffey contributed 15 and 13, respectively as Conor McGuinness notched the lone double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.
Nick Cambio was perfect from the field and at the free throw line to finish with seven as
Tavon Ginyard knocked down 11.
The second of five three-pointers from the hot hand of Coffey came at 15:08, which sparked a 13-4 run to push Adelphi ahead by 11. Molloy (3-9) struggled to overcome the deficit as the Brown and Gold ran up the score to 20+ over the last ten minutes of the opening half. McGuinness and Ginyard, along with a game-leading Coffey all pushed the double-figure mark to help lead the Panthers to a season-high 67 points after the first.
For the contest, five different Adelphi players hit multiple threes, as the team posted 50 percent shooting from three-point land in the opener, compared to the dismal 16 percent held by the hosts. Additionally, the visitors were nearly at 60 percent shooting from the field and 90 percent from the charity stripe.
Cambio and Martin-Garcia scored the bulk of their points in the second half, helping Adelphi close out their 33-point victory, a margin the team has not reached since a 99-66 win against Nyack on December 12, 2016. The Panthers led by at-most 36-points two times coming out of the locker room, once courtesy of a Coffey lay in and the other on a layup by Beech. The Lions were able to cut their deficit to under-30 with the help of a spurt from Mike Torre, who finished the game with 16.
Molloy was led by Nick Corbett, who contributed 21 points behind 7-fo-14 shooting from the field and a perfect performance at the free throw line.
The team will break for the holiday now that finals have concluded and close out the 2017 portion of the season with a Saturday, December 30 matchup against St. Thomas Aquinas College. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. on the Spartans home court.
