Rutherford, NJ - Falling a point shy of the triple digit mark, the Adelphi University men's basketball team took a 99-90 decision from Felician College, Monday evening.
The Panthers (4-7) used a team-high 23 points from
Jack Laffey coupled with double-figure performances from three others to pull away with a nine-point victory.
Tavon Ginyard followed suit with 19 points as
Nick Cambio and
Michael Coffey accounted for 17 and 13, respectively. The hosts (4-6) saw three players with 20 or more points, but were unable to hold on to their two-point advantage at the half to secure the win.
Adelphi had no issue rushing out to a seven-point lead, capped with a Laffey three-pointer at 16:02. The Golden Falcons used a 12-2 run in response however, which put them in the drivers' seat over the next three minutes. Back-to-back shots from downtown for the Brown and Gold shifted momentum their way, but it was ultimately yhe hosts who held on for the upper hand as the teams broke for the locker room.
As a team, the visitors were shooting three percent higher than the hosting Falcons in the first half alone, and had 14 bench points compared to Felician's four. Terrell Spaulding went a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe and put up 22 points to help the home team lead 48-46.
Felician and Adelphi traded leads in the opening of the second half, until a 13-4 run sparked by a Ginyard trey kept the Falcons trailing by 13. with under 10 to play. The Panthers were able to maintain the advantage in the closing minutes and sealed the deal with an
Austin Beech three-pointer despite almost a full minute left in regulation.
The road swing continues for the men's team as they are set to take on the Goldey-Beacom lightning in Delaware on Saturday, December 16. The non-conference tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
