Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Five Reach Double-Digits in Men's Basketball Loss at Queens

Flushing, N.Y. - Austin Beech and Terrel Martin-Garcia both put up double-doubles Wednesday evening at Fitzgerald Gymnasium, but Adelphi men's basketball lost a narrow 92-86 decision to non-conference opponent Queens College.

Beech accounted for 11 points (four dunks) and 13 rebounds as Martin-Garcia put up 13 in both category. Michael Coffey, with 50 percent shooting from the field posted a team-high 22 points as Jack Laffey and Tavon Ginyard rounded out the five players in double-figure points with 12 and 10, respectively. For the home team, six different players reached the double-digit point threshold, with Tyrese Crosdale leading the Knights with 19.

Adelphi (1-5) held their largest lead of the contest at 14:24 in the first half, when a Nick Cambio layup capped a nine-point run for the Brown and Gold. The hosts quickly chipped away at their deficit, and three consecutive made three-pointers helped them regain a lead to hold a four-point advantage at the half. For the contest, the Knights (2-4) scorched the nets by hitting 62.5 percent from three-point land and 55.7 percent overall from the floor, holding the Panthers to 24.2 percent from three.

Coming out of the locker room, the visitors proved aggressive, taking a 52-50 lead on a Ginyard layup 4:31 into the half, forcing a Queens timeout.  After taking back the upper hand, Adelphi tied it up again at 54 apiece until Queens' Wayne Li drained back-to-back threes to start an 8-0 run, putting the home team ahead for good. The Panthers kept it close after a Cambio tip-in cut the lead to four, and it remained a four-point difference with 6:31 to go. A Kevin Buron dunk sparked a 13-2 run for the hosts, but a late 11-point run for Adelphi kept the game within reach.

Timely fouls and 7-11 shooting from the charity stripe in the second half allowed Queens to hang on for the 92-86 victory.

Adelphi is back in action with a Northeast-10 conference matchup featuring Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, December 2. The Panthers have teamed up with the Office of Residential Life to present "Hall Wars"- a contest between residence halls for greatest attendance at their final home game of 2017.
