Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi men's basketball's 73-point performance was the most the Dolphins of Le Moyne College have let up all season, but the visitors came out on top with a 85-73 victory Tuesday evening.
Five different players for Adelphi (1-4, 0-3 NE10) finished the contest in double-digits, with
Tavon Ginyard leading the pack with 16,
Jack Laffey and
Terrel Martin-Garcia each accounted for 13 points as
Conor McGuinness and
Doug Chappell contributed 11 points apiece.
Nearly three minutes passed in the opening half before either team landed a bucket, with the Dolphins (5-0, 3-0 NE10) breaking the silence with a jumper at 17:26. The visitors held the hosts scoreless for five minutes until Laffey registered a layup to get AU on the board. Le Moyne tallied the next seven points, until an and-one situation for McGuiness had them within one. The Brown and Gold committed a 12-point run under two minutes with an
Austin Beech shot at the buzzer to command the advantage at halftime.
A Ginyard three-pointer at 15:22 of the second half allowed Adelphi to push ahead by four, but they quickly relinquished that lead as the visiting Green and White quickly shifted momentum in their favor. They used 22 bench points, including 12 from Tyree Chambers alone, to lead by as many as 14 over the remaining six minutes.
Plagued by a scoring drought and fouls down the stretch, the Panthers were unable to overcome the deficit, ultimately falling by 12 to Le Moyne.
Adelphi will break for the Thanksgiving holiday, but returns to action on Wednesday, ,November 29 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Queens College at 7:30 p.m.
