Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team battled the rain and wind on Motamed Field on Monday afternoon to come out with a Northeast-10 Conference victory over Bentley University, 2-0.
In a rematch of a Sept. 9 game that needed to be decided in a penalty shootout, both teams went scoreless in the first half with Adelphi (4-8, 2-5 NE10) outshooting the Falcons (3-9, 3-5 NE10), 9-3. Adelphi had the offensive advantage in penalty corners as well (12-3), while Amanda Gargiulo had two saves compared to Tatania Naclerio's six.
The second half commenced with the score remaining the same for another 15 minutes before the Brown and Gold broke the ice. During the 50th minute, Danielle Kempf beat her defender and netted the first goal for the Panthers past Naclerio in the right corner of the cage. Eight minutes later, Kate Manson scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Jamie Ahrens from the left side of the circle, putting Adelphi up by two over the Falcons.
With just over 10 minutes left in regulation, the Panthers held Bentley to zero goals and only six shots throughout the match (four on goal). Adelphi completed 17 shots off their 17 penalty corners taken on the day.
Gargiulo finished the day with four saves to defend her cage on Monday afternoon.
The Brown and Gold will return to action on Oct. 14 in an matchup with host American International. The contest will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mass.
