Field Hockey Falters Against Franklin Pierce, 2-1

Garden City, N.Y. - After trailing at halftime and tying to game to begin the second half, the Adelphi University field hockey team was unable to score its second Northeast-10 Conference victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, as Ravens of Franklin Pierce University left Motamed Field with a 2-1 victory.

The lone goal of the first half came from the stick Ashley Silva of the visiting Ravens (7-5, 4-3 NE10) during the ninth minute of the contest off a pass from the right side to the center of the crease. The Ravens held an edge over Adelphi (3-8, 1-5 NE10) in shots 4-0 after 35 minutes and one save by Amanda Gargiulo.

Ninety seconds into the second half, Libby Mercuri netted the Panthers' first goal of the match off a pass from Danielle Kempf on the right side of the cage. The hustle goal by the senior forward held the teams even on the scoreboard with 33 minutes left in regulation.

After two yellow cards and a green card on both sides, the Panthers held Franklin Pierce scoreless for another 25 minutes until the Ravens' Raegan Moulton put the ball in the bottom left corner past Gargiulo, putting the visitors up 2-1. With nine minutes left in the contest, the Panthers could not find the answer for overtime on Saturday afternoon. In a defensive-minded contest, Franklin Pierce finished the day with seven shots compared to the hosts' two.

The Brown and Gold will host Bentley University on Monday for a quick turnaround on Motamed Field. The matchup will commence at 12 p.m.
