Diffley's Early Goal Stands Up as #10 Women's Soccer Upends AIC, 1-0

Springfield, Mass. - Freshman Jacqueline Diffley's second goal of the season in the 11th minute stood up for the duration, as the 10th-ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team defeated the AIC Yellow Jackets on the road, 1-0, on Wednesday night.

The Panthers (14-2, 12-1 NE10) had lost their last two contests, dropping from No.6 to No.10 in the NCAA Division II national rankings on Monday but holding strong as the top-ranked team in the East Region, but the freshman's early tally off the assist from Michelle Wienecke helped Adelphi get back on the winning track.

Adelphi's offensive onslaught continued for 90 minutes, as the Brown and Gold outshot AIC (4-9-4, 3-8-2 NE10) by a 19-6 margin in the game, 10-1 on goal.

Mikayla Demanche made nine total saves for AIC, including stopping a second-half PK awarded to Jeanine Nunez, but the Panther defense didn't allow solid opportunities for the Yellow Jackets to net the equalizer.

The home team's lone shot on goal came in the 66th minute off the foot of Linnea Herbertsson, but Isabel Sandstrom turned aside her fellow Swede's effort to keep her team in the lead.

The Panthers' final game of the regular season is set for Saturday, Oct. 28 as they travel to Assumption College for a 6 p.m. NE10 contest.
