Nunez, Sipos Propel #10 Women's Soccer to 4-1 Win at Assumption in Regular Season Finale

Worcester, Mass. - A season-high five points from senior forwards Jeanine Nunez and Taylor Sipos helped power the 10th-ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team to a dominant 4-1 victory over Assumption Colege in the team's regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

Nunez scored two goals, one in each half, and registered an assist to lead Adelphi (15-2, 13-1 NE10) to victory, as the Panthers locked up the regular season title officially on Saturday night by eight points over second-place Southern New Hampshire.

The Staten Island native broke a two week scoring drought, as she last registered the game-winning tally in the final minute of a 1-0 victory over New Haven on Oct. 11.

It was Nunez's classmate Sipos who got Adelphi on the board in the sixth minute with the first goal of the game, as she slipped past Assumption keeper Alexis Nason, who came off her line and scored into the corner for the early 1-0 lead.

Sipos also recorded five points in the victory on two goals and an assist, as she helped the Brown and Gold double its lead in the 31st minute (30:18), assisting on Nunez's first goal of the game off a set piece from the right side.

Assumption got one back less than a minute later, as Brooke Shatney scored past Isabel Sandstrom in just one of two shots on goal the Greyhounds took in the game. The Panther defense locked down the NE10's leading scorer in the win, Kallie Villemaire, leaving her shotless over the course of 90 minutes.

The second half saw Adelphi tack on two more goals thanks to Nunez and Sipos, as Nunez cut in from the left sideline to score unassisted in the 71st minute to restore the two-goal edge, before assisting on a rocket from 20 yards out by Sipos which hit the near post and went in for the final goal of the game in the 82nd.

The top-seeded Panthers get their quest for a second NE10 Championship title in three years underway on Tuesday afternoon, as they host the eighth-seeded Merrimack College Warriors at 4 p.m., ahead of the men's quartterfinal game against Bentley. The Panthers defeated the Warriors, 6-1, in the regular season on Sept. 9.
