#14 Men's Soccer Shuts Out Franklin Pierce, 2-0

Rindge, N.H. - The 14th-ranked Adelphi University men's soccer team scored its first shutout victory in the month of October with a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference road victory over the Franklin Pierce Ravens on Saturday afternoon.

Taylor Kaczynski continued his momentum from Wednesday's victory over Saint Rose, where he scored his first two goals of the season for a 2-1 Adelphi win, with the first goal of the game in the 10th minute. Later, in the 75th minute, Ofek Pinto converted on his first score of the season to double up the margin for Adelphi (11-1-2, 9-1-1 NE10) which stood as the final score.

Having last scored a shutout win over the SNHU Penmen on home field on Sept. 30, Kaczynski put the Panthers ahead early in the first half after he headed in a left-side cross from Joseph Sanchez to score his third straight goal. From that point, the Brown and Gold two seven more shots before the half, but none were able to find the target as Franklin Pierce keeper Jadel Poon-Lewis made a pair of saves.

Adelphi took five corner kicks in the first five minutes of the second half but could not find its second goal, as the Ravens tallied a team defensive save and Poon-Lewis recorded another. Seven more shots came from the Brown and Gold offense before the eighth proved lucky, as Pinto headed a corner kick from Toni Soler for the insurance Adelphi sought.

Raymond Leto made a pair of saves in the final 10 minutes to record his third shutout of the year, while Poon-Lewis made seven total. At the final whistle, Adelphi held a 20-7 lead in shots, leading to a 12-1 margin in corner kicks.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when they travel to Le Moyne College for a rematch of the 2016 NE10 Championship, which was won by Adelphi, 2-1, in Garden City last fall. Kickoff is set for 3 pm.
