Syracuse, N.Y. - In a rematch of last season's Northeast-10 Championship, where the Adelphi University men's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit to score a 2-1 victory, the Panthers once again pulled off a comeback against the Le Moyne College Dolphins - this time in a stunning fashion on the road on Tuesday.
Adelphi (12-1-1, 10-1-1 NE10), trailing 1-0 since the ninth minute, scored two goals in just over a minute of each other to pull off the dramatic victory in the penultimate game of the regular season.
Reigning NE10 Player of the Week
Taylor Kaczynski proved hero for the Brown and Gold for the third straight game, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals in the 80th and 81st minute, back-to-back.
The sophomore forward has scored five goals in the past three games, scoring both goals in a 2-1 win for the second time this season.
The Dolphins (11-3-2, 7-3-2 NE10) took an early lead thanks to Marek Weber, who scored his league-leading 17th goal of the season early in the first half. He took a header near the left post off intended shot from Marcello Palucci from the top left corner of the penalty box into the goal past
Raymond Leto to give the home team an early lead.
Unable to find the equalizer for over 70 minutes, Kaczynski finally broke through from eight yards out against Ben Beaury, taking
Toni Soler's rebounded shot into the lower left corner to make it 1-1, and just over a minute later,
Federico De Oliveira streaked down the right side, crossing to Kaczynski who finished again into the lower left to give Adelphi the lead.Â
Le Moyne amped up its offensive trying to tie things up, taking three shots in the final 2:30, but one was saved by Leto, the second blocked and the third missed wide right to help Adelphi come away with the win.
Adelphi out-shot Le Moyne by a slim 13-12 margin, with Leto recording four saves to Beaury's three. A game with five yellow cards also saw 27 combined team fouls, and Adelphi took four second-half corners.
The Panthers close out the regular season with a 7 p.m. contest against American Int'l on Friday night, before which they will celebrate 13 seniors on Senior Night.
