Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#6 Women's Soccer Suffers First Setback Against Wilmington (Del.), 1-0

Garden City, N.Y. - For the first time this season, the Adelphi University women's soccer team tasted defeat, as the Panthers were shut out against the Wilmington (Del.) Wildcats on Motamed Field, 1-0, on Thursday night.

After a scoreless first half, the Panthers (13-1) surrendered the lone goal of the contest in the 53rd minute, as WilmU's Jessica Unsihuay scored her second goal of the season past a diving Isabel Sandstrom which stood as the difference in the game.

Unsihuay took the cross from Presile Quaranta in front of the goal, and dodged around Sandstrom's attempt to stop the ball to score into the open net and give the visiting team the lead.

The best chance for Adelphi to tie the game in the second half came in the form of a header from Kerianne Scorce, set up off the corner kick by Taylor Sipos, but the sophomore's attempt rung off the inside of the left post and away from the goal, ending the threat against WilmU keeper Kierstyn Williams.

Overall, Williams made seven stops on 11 Brown and Gold shots on the night, as the Wildcats took just five in the game themselves with three on goal. Adelphi held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks, but were unable to convert attempts into scoring opportunities.

The Panthers look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they host Franklin Pierce for a 3 p.m. NE10 contest. Prior to the game, the team will honor its five seniors: Sipos, Nicole Forte, Lauren Viggiano, Jeanine Nunez and Sage Dieterle.
