#6 Women's Soccer Pushes Past Saint Rose, 2-0

Garden City, N.Y. - Two second-half goals helped lead the sixth-ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team to a win on Motamed Field on Tuesday night, as the Panthers took down Saint Rose, the team directly behind them in the Northeast-10 Conference standings.

After just over 57 minutes of scoreless soccer between the top two teams in the NE10, senior Taylor Sipos scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Sabrina Blaskovic to give Adelphi (13-0, 11-0 NE10) a lead it would never relinquish, before freshman Jacqueline Diffley scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 74th minute as insurance.

In what was a tightly-contested match from the first whistle, the Golden Knights' (10-3-1, 9-3 NE10) offense forced freshman keeper Isabel Sandstrom to make a total of six saves, a career-high, to earn her sixth shutout of the season. The Swede made five total in the first half, keeping Saint Rose off the board, but the Adelphi offense was unable to create the first goal in turn over the first 45 minutes.

The best chance for Adelphi in the first half came just 1:47 into the game, as Blaskovic fired a shot off a corner taken by Sipos which rung off the right goalpost and away from the net. Saint Rose keeper Marika Laurendeau made 10 saves in the game, including seven in the first half, to keep Adelphi scoreless.

After Sipos broke the ice, Diffley's first college tally was a strong cross past Laurendeau off the assist from Erica Bleimeyer, which doubled the Adelphi lead as the shutout stood.

The Panthers out-shot the Golden Knights by a slim margin of 19-15, doubling up in shots on goal (14-7).

The Panthers are back in action for their last non-league game of the season on Thursday night, when they host Wilmington (Del.) in a 7 p.m. contest.
