#2 Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with #24 SCSU

New Haven, Conn. - In the third nationally-ranked clash for the #2 Adelphi University men's soccer team this season, 110 minutes was not enough to decide a victory as the Panthers played to a scoreless draw with the Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Wednesday night.

The Panthers' previous matchup against a Top 25 team came against then-#12 SNHU last weekend, in which Federico De Oliveira tallied a game-winning penalty kick on Sept. 30, while they played to a 3-3 draw with then-#7 LIU Post to open the season on Aug. 31.

In rainy conditions in New Haven. neither side was able to wrestle an attacking advantage. Adelphi (9-0-2, 7-0-1 NE10) held a slim 13-8 advantage in shots in the game, as goalkeepers collectively made 10 saves.

Raymond Leto made four saves total, two in each half, as he was matched by Owls (7-1-3, 5-0-3 NE10) senior Noah Varonier who made six stops, including five in the second half and one in the second OT period.

Andre De Giorgi took three shots for the Panthers, while Alex Varkatzas and James Thristino each took two, with both of the latter's attempts being on goal.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday with another contest against a ranked team, welcoming #14 Merrimack to Motamed Field at 3 p.m.
