Garden City, N.Y. - Behind the double-double effort of
Megan Manierski, the Adelphi University volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 victory over Pace University Tuesday evening.
Manierski, who posted 32 assists and 13 digs even added four kills on offense.
McKenna Clawson also registered a double-digit kill evening with 11 and added seven digs on the back line. Teammate
Katarina Warburton was responsible for a team-high 19 digs, as the Panthers (8-9, 4-1 NE10) put up six blocks and tacked on six service aces as a team. For the Setters (6-13, 1-4 NE10), Claudia Fontanet was the lone member in double-figures in any category, with 17 digs while also contributing nine kills.
The opening set deemed pretty even at the start, as the teams battled back and forth until a 5-2 run put the hosts up 15-11. Leilani Vazquez registered three of the next four kills to remain in the drivers seat even after a Pace timeout. The Setters committed a four-point run of their own, however kills from
Rebecca Seeba,
Cara McKenzie and
Victoria Cast, capped with a visitor service error secured the opening victory.
Starting the second set, Adelphi carried the momentum early, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. Pace, unsatisfied captialized on several errors from the home team to bring the score back even at seven-all. A service error from the visitors sparked five unanswered points from the Panthers, who managed to hold on to a four-point advantage middway through. A big block from Cast and a couple of kills from Clawson extended the lead to seven, with just two points until set-point. A 7-1 run from the Setters brought them within two, but another miscue at the service line ended the set in victory for the hosts.
Without skipping a beat the Brown and Gold once more pushed ahead early for the lead. The middle of the third frame featured a six-point run bookmarked with kills from McKenzie and Cast, as well as two service aces from Warburton. Pace didn't give in as they continued to chip away at their deficit, but scoring five of the final nine points ended the set and match to give the home team their fourth NE10 victory of the season.
Adelphi volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, October 17 when they travel to meet up with defending NE10 Champions, University of New Haven at 7:00 p.m. The next homestand for the Panthers will feature Dig Pink weekend starting October 20 and the annual alumni reception on October 21.
