Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#18 Stonehill Upends #5 Women's Soccer, 4-3

Garden City, N.Y. - Three unanswered goals from the 18th ranked Stonehill Skyhawks turned into a 4-3 victory for the visitors against the fifth ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action earlier this evening on Motamed Field.

Two goals from Morgan Santoro during the 16th and 17th minutes helped give the Brown and Gold (5-1/3-1 NE-10) a 2-0 advantage. The first tally was set up on a run from Jeanine Nunez as Santoro collected and beat her defender with multiple moves to the right before finishing. The second strike came off a free kick outside of the 18-yard box on the top right corner.

The Skyhawks (7-0-1/3-0-1) quickly responded to cut the Adelphi lead in half as the clock hit 20 minutes exactly. Meredith Moore played a cross from Claire O'Brien with a header that tipped off Anne Marie Ulliac's fingertips and into the goal. However, Santoro once again gave the Panthers a two-goal lead in the 28th minute by finishing a pass from Taylor Sipos in front of the net.

With time still to play in the first half, Nicole Geraghty brought Stonehill to within 3-2 in the 40th minute by collecting a loose ball on the right and finishing past Ulliac. The third goal on the night for Stonehill that tied the score right before halftime came on a miscue by the Adelphi backline as the ball fell out of possesion and into the Panther goal during the 43rd minute.

Despite a tie game of 3-3 at the halftime break, the Brown and Gold led in both shots, 12-3, and corner kicks, 4-0. Jamie Block helped keep the score close throughout the first half with two saves while Ulliac was credited with one stop.

Following the six-goal first half, both teams looked for opportunities in the second period to take the lead. Creating more pressure, the Skyhawks netted the lead in the 75th minute as Lauren Kapatoes finished a feed from Madalyn Fernbach on the left side of the field and into the right side of the net.

In the final 25 minutes, the Panthers nearly tied the game on several occasions that included attempts from Laura Gomez and Santoro. However, three saves from Block and few defensive plays from the Stonehill defense kept Adelphi off the board in the final half.

In the effort, Adelphi created a 22-6 shot advantage, however, all six of Stonehill's attempt were on-target. Additionally, the Panthers generated 12 corner kicks while not yielding one.

Adelphi turns around quickly for another NSCAA Top 25 match up on Monday, hosting fourth ranked East Stroudsburg at 7:00 pm on Motamed Field.

Notes:
- Santoro marks the first hat trick for the program since alum and current assistant coach Kelsey Malles netted three goals against UNC Pembroke on September 6, 2015.
- Tonight's setback marks the first regular season loss at home for the Panthers since a 1-0 decision to Pace on October 7, 2014.
- Former All-American Sam Whitney is a current assistant coach for Stonehill.
