Colchester, Vt. – The Adelphi University men's soccer team, ranked 17th in the latest NSCAA NCAA National Poll, won its sixth straight match earlier today with a 2-0 victory at Saint Michael's during Northeast-10 Conference action.

Florent Girardin registered his second goal of the season during the 17th minute to give the Brown and Gold (6-1/3-0 NE-10) a 1-0 advantage. Joseph Sanchez was credited with the assist on the play after finding Girardin with a left touch pass that was fired into the upper corner.

The Panthers controlled a 13-8 shot advantage in the opening half that included Spenser Powell making up four stops on the defensive side. Each team managed one corner kick in the first 45 minutes.

Holding onto the 1-0 lead, the Panthers added an insurance goal during the 77th minute as James Thristino netted his third goal of the season off a Federico De Oliveira assist. De Oliveira played Thristino forward on the right side of the field followed by the sophomore scoring on the same side.

Adelphi ended the day with a 25-9 shot advantage that included just one shot allowed in the final half. In addition, the Panthers created nine corners in the second period corners while yielding just one to the Purple Knights (3-3/1-2 NE-10).

On the nine shots from Saint Michael's, Spenser Powell made five saves to earn his sixth win and shutout on the year. Meanwhile, Gabriel Pineda made four stops for the Knights during the second half.

Looking ahead, the Panthers return to Motamed Field on Tuesday with a 5:00 pm league match against Bentley.
