Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hueber's Two First Half Goals Leads #17 Men's Soccer Past Assumption 2-0

Garden City, N.Y. - Two goals from senior Caelan Hueber in the first half allowed the 17th ranked Adelphi University men's soccer team upend Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption 2-0 earlier this evening on Motamed Field.

During the 18th minute, Hueber put the Panthers (5-1/3-0 NE-10) ahead with a shot just in front of the net after a feed from James Thristino. The tally came on the sixth shot of the game for the Brown and Gold in addition to not allowing an attempt to the Greyhounds (3-3/2-1 NE-10).

The next shot attempt did not arrive for nearly seven minutes, however, Hueber was once again on the right side of a pass. The senior put in the second strike of the night just inside the 18-yard box after feeds from Matt Giaconelli and Joseph Sanchez.

Adelphi ended the first half with an 11-1 shot margin while Assumption controlled corner kicks 2-0. Spenser Powell was forced to make the only save in the period.

The Panthers once again led in shots during the final 45 minutes, however, at a slighter margin of 6-3. Five of the attempts forced Brian Murrary to make four saves while another save was made by the defense on the goaline to keep Adelphi off the scoreboard. The Greyhounds nearly cut the lead in half during the 80th minute, however, Simon Trcka's attempt bounced off the middle of the crossbar.

The Brown and Gold ended the night with a 17-4 advantage in shots while Assumption tallied five corners and yielded just three. Toni Soler led Adelphi in shots with four, putting two on-target.

Looking ahead, the Panthers travel to Vermont this Saturday for a 1:00 pm conference tilt at Saint Michael's.
