#20 Men's Soccer Wins First League Game at New Haven, 4-0

West Haven, Conn. – After news of breaking into the NSCAA National Poll at number 20 this afternoon, the Adelphi University men's soccer team followed up with a 4-0 victory at New Haven to open the Northeast-10 Conference schedule this afternoon on the Chargers' campus.

A pair of goals in the first 12 minutes helped jumpstart the Panthers' (3-1/1-0 NE-10) attack for the evening. The first tally came on a penalty kick from Emil Thomsen following a Chargers (3-1/0-1 NE-10) foul inside the 18-yard box.

Just more than two minutes later, Caelan Hueber connected for his third goal of the season into a wide open net. James Thristino forced a play from the goalkeeper and crossed a pass to the senior forward to give the Brown and Gold a 2-0 advantage.

Through the first 45 minutes, Adelphi held a 15-1 shot margin that included seven shots on target that created the two goals and forced Stefano Lorusso to make five saves in net for New Haven. However, Adelphi managed to yield just one corner kick.

Another couple of closely timed goals in the second period helped extend the Adelphi lead to 4-0. During the 55th minute, Matt Giaconelli knocked in his first strike of the season by beating several defenders before giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

Taylor Kaczynski registered his second goal of the season to cap off the scoring on the day at exactly 58 minutes. The transfer chipped ahead a ball before a few dribbles and a tap shot past Lorusso closed out the scoring.

An addition of nine shots in the final 45 minutes allowed the Panthers to finish with a final margin of 24-4 while also creating a total of five corner kicks compared to two being yielded. Joseph Blasetti made two saves for Adelphi during the last 18 minutes of action after subbing in for Spenser Powell who faced just two shots without recording a save.

The Brown and Gold return to Motamed Field on Saturday to host Le Moyne at 3:00 pm for a league matchup.

Notes
- The Panthers and Dolphins met twice last year, going 1-1 with Adelphi coming out on top 2-0 during the NE-10 Championship Quarterfinal.
- Today's shutout marks the third straight for the Brown and Gold.
