Garden City, N.Y. - The top seeded Adelphi University (17-0) women's lacrosse team scored 18 straight goals, to move past eighth seeded Pace University (9-8) and into the Final Four of the Northeast-10 Championship, courtesy of an, 18-2 victory tonight on Motamed Field.
Rachel O'Brien led all scorers with a game-high eight points on three goals and five assists, while
Emily Keesling contributed four (3G, 1A) and both
Jacqueline Jahelka (3G) and
Danielle Montano (2G, 1A) had three points.
Michele Scannell and
Beth Ann Pierce rounded out Adelphi's multi-point scorers with two tallies each.
The defensive effort was led by
Kaitlyn Stackpole, who caused three Pace turnovers, while
Gianna Gallo and
Taylor Hayes were credited with two caused turnovers each.
Camille Rosellini led the Panthers in draw controls with four and five different members of the Brown and Gold picked up two ground balls.
Taylor Hayes was credited with her 17th victory of the season and made three stops while playing all 60 minutes in net.
The Adelphi charge started just 58 seconds into the game when O'Brien found Pierce streaking toward the goal from eight meters out. Pierce calmly collected the pass from O'Brien and sent the ball into the back of the Setter net. The Panthers scored four more times in the first 10 minutes of the game. Their fifth goal came off the stick of Keesling, unassisted at the 20:56 mark.
The Brown and Gold extended their lead to double digits with 10:30 remaining in the first on Montano's first tally of the game, which came off a feed from O'Brien, 10-0. Adelphi entered the intermission with a 13-0 lead on another Montano goal, this one coming with 90 seconds left in the first.
The Panthers picked up in the second half right where they left off. Jahelka's second of the night kicked off the scoring in the final 30 minutes, 1:54 into play and a score from
Jill Graziano, with 15:05 left in the game closed out Adelphi's 18 goal blitz. Pace managed to put a ripple in the back of the Adelphi net on two occasions in the final 10 minutes, but the Brown and Gold margin was too much, 18-2.
