#1 Women's Lacrosse Puts Away Saint Anselm in Regular Season Finale, 14-5

The Panthers opened the game with five straight goals.

Manchester, NH - The top ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team scored five goals in the first 10 minutes of action, pulling away from host, Saint Anselm (7-8, 6-7 NE-10) for a 14-5 Northeast-10 win this afternoon in Manchester, New Hampshire.

With the victory the Panthers (16-0, 13-0 NE-10) locked up the first seed in the Northeast-10 Tournament and earned the programs fifth unblemished regular season and fifth Northeast-10 regular season crown.

Emily Keesling and Rachel Aitkens took center stage this afternoon, combining for nine points. Kessling had two goals and three assists, while Aitkens put four balls into the back of the Hawk net. Kate Beier, Rachel O'Brien and Casey Zalewski also had more then one point, Beier with a hat trick, O'Brien on one goal and two helpers and Zalewski was credited with two tallies. 

Aitkens and Beier also found a way to contribute on the defensive end as well with two caused turnovers each, while Camille Rosellini grabbed a team-high three draw controls and Keesling picked up three ground balls. Taylor Hayes made two stops, earning her 16th victory of the season.

Aitkens and O'Brien opened the scoring, finding the back of the Saint Anselm goal just 31 seconds apart, giving Adelphi a 2-0 lead five minutes after the first whistle. Goals from Beth Ann Pierce, Aitkens and Beier closed out the spurt, putting the Panther on top, 5-0, just over 10 minutes into the contest.

The Hawks momentarily stemmed the tide, getting a goal from Erin Marshall at the 13:45 mark, But, Keesling's first goal of the game kicked off another Brown and Gold run, a four tally rally that was capped by another Aitkens score, making it an eight goal Adelphi lead, 9-1, with 77 ticks left in the first. The hosts were credited with a goal in the final minute of the first half, sending the game into intermission with the Panthers on top, 9-2.

The second stanza was more of a defensive struggle, with 10 minutes passing before another goal was put on the board. Aitkens finally broke through for Adelphi and her goal was followed just over a minute later by a tally from Beier, giving the Panthers a, 11-2 lead with 19:20 remaining in the contest. Six goal were scored in the final 19 minutes of play, three by each team, giving the Brown and Gold a 14-5 victory.

Adelphi will return to the field in the Northeast-10 Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 5 against eighth seeded Pace University at 7:00 pm. 

Notes:
- Adelphi captured their fifth Northeast-10 Regular Season Title with today's win. Winning in 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2015.
- The Panthers are pursuing their sixth Northeast-10 Tournament Title, having earned championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
- Adelphi is 12-1 all-time in the Northeast-10 Tournament and have played in the Champoinship every year since joining the conference.
