#1 Women's Lacrosse Fights Past Franklin Pierce, 15-4

Jacqueline Jahelka led the Panthers with eight points on seven goals and an assist.

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University junior Jacqueline Jahelka scored four of the Panthers first five goals, pacing the top ranked women's lacrosse team in a 15-4 Northeast-10 win over Franklin Pierce tonight on Motamed Field.

The victory, Adelphi's 15th of the season, keeps the Panthers unblemished in the Northeast-10, 12-0 and overall, 15-0, while the Ravens fall to 8-7 overall and 5-7 in conference play.

Jahelka led all players and tied a career-high with eight points, setting a new career mark for goals scored in a game with seven. Both Michele Scannell and Rachel O'Brien scored four points on the night, Scannell on three goals and one assist, while O'Brien was credited with four helpers. Emily Keesling and Rachel Aitkens were the only other Panthers with more then one point, Keesling with one tally and one assist and Aitkens with two scores.

Ryley Weber led the defense with four caused turnovers, while Camille Rosellini turned the Ravens over twice. Scannell and O'Brien controlled the draw for Adelphi, winning five and four respectively, and Rosellini had a game-high four ground balls. Taylor Hayes earned her 15th victory on the season, making eight stops on the evening.

Franklin Pierce came to play and proved it, winning the first draw and striking first. Briana Sweeney scored the first of her two goals on the night 4:43 into the conteset, putting the Ravens on top. However, her tally jolted Adelphi awake. Jahelka would answer for the Panthers just 15 seconds later off a feed from Scannell, knotting the game at one.

From there Adelphi scored four more times, the final goal coming off Jahelka's stick again, her fourth tally of the contest, at the 14:39 mark, putting the Brown and Gold on top, 5-1. Sweeney found the back of the Panther goal again with 12:33 to go, pulling Franklin Pierce within three goals, 5-2. But, Adelphi scored three of the final four goals of the half, taking a 8-3 lead into the intermission.

After the break the Panthers came out hot, beating Raven goalkeeper Denise Hunt, who made 12 saves in the game, just 38 seconds into the half on an Aitkens goal. From there Adelphi unleashed a seven goal run, that culminated with Jahelka's seventh and final goal of the game with 2:48 left in the contest. Franklin Pierce's Caitlin Sweeney was credited with the Raven's final goal of the game, making the score at the buzzer, 15-4 in favor of the hosts.
