Garden City, N.Y. - Despite loading the bases in the ninth inning, the Adelphi University baseball team was unable to overcome Felician this afternoon as the Golden Falcons (23-16) secured a 9-6 non-conference victory at William J. Bonomo Field.
Trailing 9-5 heading into the ninth, a bases loaded walk to
Kory Cassara brought in
Brett Malm to cut the deficit to 9-6 for the Panthers (17-19). However, Danny Naif picked up his sixth save of the season for the visitors by recording just one out, a ground out of
Robert Vani.
Jonathan Iadevaia went 4-for-4 from the plate for the Brown and Gold while also driving in two runs and scoring a pair.
Tyler Warshefskie tallied two hits and scored a run in addition to
Eric Hassell recording two RBI.
The Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to start a streak of three straight scoring innings. Iadevaia drove in both runs with a single up the middle to score Warshefskie and
Steven Withers. However, Felician exceeded the streak of Adelphi by totaling all nine of its runs from the third through seventh innings, including three in the top of the seventh. Andrew LaMura homered to lead off the fourth and added another long ball in the seventh to drive in three runs, finishing the day with four RBI on two hits.
Despite the no decision,
David Butler started the first three innings and struck out six batters as Adelphi pitching combined for 14 strikeouts.
Looking ahead, the Panthers welcome New Haven for a three-game series this weekend starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 pm.
Notes:
- A total of 15 pitchers were used between both teams in today's game.
