Camera's Two Home Runs Lead Softball to Victory at AIC, 8-0

Springfield, Mass. -- A pair of two-run blasts off the bat of Nicole Camera powered the Adelphi University softball team to an 8-0 victory in the third game of a weekend series at American International College on Sunday.

Camera went 8-10 at the plate across the weekend to lead Adelphi (26-15, 16-4 NE-10) in the three game sweep, as she and Brenna Martini combined for six RBIs on Sunday. Lindsay Mapes tossed all five innings in the run-ruled win, as she scattered four hits, a walk and five strikeouts across her outing.

Adelphi posted a four-spot in the opening inning, as the first four batters reached base. After Krista King singled and Nicoletta Cuccio walked to lead off, Martini drove them both in with her 12th double of the season. Camera came to the plate and hit her first ball out of the park in the next at bat, stretching Adelphi's lead to 4-0 before Mapes took the circle.

Mapes worked around two runners in the bottom of the first, as those were the only Yellow Jackets to reach base over the course of the first three innings. To Adelphi's credit, the Panthers added three more in the third as Martini singled to lead off ahead of Camera's second two-run shot, before Stephanie Staiano singled down the right field line and Danielle Cutuli's single was misplayed in the outfield, leading to the seventh run.

Camera and Martini were in the middle of things for Adelphi in the fourth as well, as they were on base with two outs ahead of walks issued to both Megan Lewis and Staiano, with Staiano getting credit for the RBI as Camera scored.

Mapes' biggest test came in the fourth, as consecutive singles put two on with one out, and a third loaded the bases with two outs. However, she responded by getting Kristen Steele to strike out swinging, before retiring the side in order in the fifth to end the game.

The Panthers return to action in their final regular season home doubleheader on Tuesday, when they welcome in the University of New Haven at 3 pm.

NOTES
- King has recorded a hit in 16 of the past 17 games, and is on a nine-game hitting streak
- Martini and Camera have combined to hit 20 of Adelphi's 27 home runs this season
