Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day With 19-7 Defeat of Bentley

Garden City, N.Y. - Celebrating the final regular season home game of the 2016 season as well as the senior class, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team used a 6-0 first period to pace a 19-7 victory against Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley earlier this afternoon on Motamed Field.

Salvatore Tuttle led the attack for the Panthers (11-2/9-1 NE-10) with seven points behind six goals and one assist. Meanwhile, classmate Anthony Gomes netted three goals and added two assists for five points. Joe Giardina came up with five groundballs in addition to caused two turnovers while Luke Spitzer caused three himself. John McGrath made nine saves in goal to earn the victory.

Gomes scored two of the six goals in the opening period to lead the Brown and Gold to the early advantage. The scoring continued into the second period with Gomes striking for his third and Tuttle notching his second of the day to build an 8-0 lead before Bentley scored its opener nearly midway through the second quarter.

Adelphi strung together two more runs, both 4-0 streaks, during the second and fourth periods. McGrath held the Falcons to two goals in the first half, aided by his game-high nine saves. In total, 15 different individuals registered a point for the Brown and Gold on the day.

Despite the 12-goal margin, Bentley outshot Adelphi 46-38 in addition to winning 37 groundballs compared to 35 for the Brown and Gold. However, the Panthers forced 19 Bentley turnovers while going 19-for-20 on clear attempts.

Two road games await Adelphi to finish the regular season, starting with Wednesday's matchup at NYIT. Gametime is scheduled for 4:00 pm in Old Westbury.

Notes:
- Adelphi celebrated 15 seniors from the program this afternoon with a pregame ceremony.
- Tuttle eclipsed the 50-goal mark this afternoon for the third straight season. He currently sits at 52 goals this season after scoring 50 last year and 57 in 2014.
