Garden City, N.Y. - The top ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team (12-0, 9-0 NE-10) celebrated Senior Day on Saturday and three seniors,
Rachel O'Brien,
Emily Keesling and
Danielle Montano, combined for 13 points to power the Panthers past the visiting Yellow Jackets of American International College (7-6, 4-5 NE-10), 20-2.
On a day when the Brown and Gold said goodbye to 10 seniors, it was a junior,
Jacqueline Jahelka, who stole the show, scoring a game and career-high seven goals. Both O'Brien and Keesling posted five points, O'Brien on five helpers and Keesling on three goals and two assists. Montano added three assists of her own, while
Michele Scannell and
Kate Beier posted three points each, Scannell on a hat trick and Beier with two goals and one helper. Additionally,
Rachel Aitkens (2G),
Jill Graziano (1G, 1A) and
Beth Ann Pierce (1G, 1A) picked up two points each.
The defensive effort was led by
Jen Graham and
Gianna Gallo, who caused two turnovers each, while
Ryley Weber turned over the Yellow Jackets twice. The trio of
Camille Rosellini, Weber and Scannell controlled the draw circle for Adelphi, earning five, four and four draws, respectively. Senior netminder
Taylor Hayes earned her 12th win of the season, making two stops and causing one turnover in 50 minutes of action.
Adelphi came out of the gate quickly, scoring four times in the first 5:05, twice off the stick of Beier. The run lasted three more goals, putting the Panthers on top, 7-0 on a tally from Jahelka, her 48th of the season, with 18:08 remaining in the first.Nine minutes of scoreless action was shattered by AIC's first goal of the game, courtesy of Mary Bates, but Adelphi responded with three goals in a span of 90 seconds, pushing out to a 10-1 lead.Â
The Yellowjackets tacked on one more goal, with 47 ticks left in the half, sending the contest into the intermission with Adelphi on top, 10-2. The second half was all Brown and Gold. The hosts ripped off 10 unanswered goals in the second stanza, the final two coming from
Beth Ann Pierce and
Chelsea Abreu, just her third of the season, making it a 20-2 Panther win.
Adelphi returns to the field on Tuesday, April 19 when they welcome in the second ranked team in the country, LeMoyne College, for a clash of the Northeast-10's last two unbeaten teams. The first draw will take place at 6:00 pm.Â

Rachel O'Brien (160G, 133A) is just seven points shy of becoming the fifth player in Adelphi history to score 300 points, while
Jacqueline Jahelka is now 19 goals shy (181) of becoming just the sixth player in Adelphi history to score 200 goals.Â
- Adelphi is 9-3 all-time against Le Moyne, including 5-0 in their last five games. The Panthers last loss to the Dolphins was in 2013, 8-6 on May 5.
