Manchester, N.H. - The Adelphi University baseball concluded a busy weekend of competition by dropping two games at Southern New Hampshire, 5-2 and 10-2.
On the day, four players tallied two hits for the Brown and Gold (15-14/5-6 NE-10) including
Kory Cassara and
Brandon Morse who also notched an RBI each. Cassara also added two walks along with
Michael Cattani.
Game One
Adelphi totaled four hits throughout the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead after the opening frames.
Robert Vani scored the first run of the game in the first inning on a Cassara single to right center. Vani reached with two outs after being hit by the pitch. In the next inning, Morse drove in
Tyler Warshefskie to push the advantage to 2-0 after the sophomore led the inning off with single up the middle.
One hit in the fourth inning tied the game for the Penmen (25-3/10-1 NE-10) as Joshua Zbierski singled in two runs, the lone hit of the inning. Southern New Hampshire took the lead during the fifth after Mike Mastroberti drove in a run on a single to center. The host added two more runs on sacrifice fly from Carson Helms and solo homerun by Ryan Gendron.
With that lead, Ben Criscuolo finished up the complete game by scattering nine hits and allow just the two early runs while adding seven strikeouts.
Michael Tarpey kept the deficit at three runs for the Panthers by logging three innings of work with one hit and three strikeout.
Cassara and
Steven Withers led Adelphi from the plate with two hits a piece while five others helped the team total nine hits. The Penmen accumulated eight walks throughout the game to help lengthen five hits.
Game Two
Adelphi once again gained an early advantage in the final game by scoring two runs in the second inning.
Ray Triano drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly on a 3-2 pitch to drive in
Brett Malm, who led off with a single.
Eric Hassell scored the second run by stealing third base and scoring on the throwing error.
Three runs in the fourth inning opened 10 unanswered runs for Southern Hampshire that also included six runs in the sixth inning. Robert Fulkerson capped off the scoring in the fourth with a RBI double. During the sixth inning output, the Penmen needed just two hits to score the six runs after being aided by two errors and three walks.
The host added one more run in the eighth as Manny Cruz homered to right center. Cruz finished the afternoon with two runs, two hits and two RBI while Mastroberti finished with a 3-for-5 game. Five individuals each tallied a hit for Adelphi.
Up Next
Adelphi welcomes Felician on Tusday to start the first of five games on the docket this week. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm from Bonomo Field.

- Southern New Hampshire was tied for 11th in the latest NCBWA Poll while sitting second in the East Region Poll.
- The Panthers finished this five-game weekend with a 2-3 mark.
