Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Adelphi Athletics

Men's Lacrosse Tops AIC, 24-7

Salvatore Tuttle and Gordon Purdie, Jr. led the Panthers with a combined 16 points.

Springfield, Mass. - The seventh-ranked Adelphi University men's lacrosse program outscored the host Yellow Jackets of American International College (AIC), 10-2 in the second quarter on the way to a 24-7 Northeast-10 Conference victory on Saturday. With the win, Adelphi improves to 3-1 overall and opens conference play at 1-0, while AIC continues to search for their first win of the season at 0-4 and 0-2 in NE-10 play.

Salvatore Tuttle and Gordon Purdie, Jr. led the Panther attack with a combined 16 points. Tuttle posted nine points on two goals and a career-high seven assists, while Purdie, Jr. had four goals and three assists in the win. Anthony Gomes chipped in four goals to the cause, while Paul Bentz and Chris Lopez both scored one goal and handed out two assists. In addition, nine other members of the Brown and Gold registered at least one point in the victory.

The defense caused six turnovers on the afternoon led by Louis Cuttitta who caused two, while four other players turned the hosts over once. John English led all players at the face-off "X", winning 20 of 21 attempts and collected nine of Adelphi's 41 ground balls. Four different goalkeepers -- John McGrath, Brendan McDougal, Ryland Frost and Nicholas Badaracco -- turned in time between the pipes, making a combined six stops and giving up just seven goals.

The Yellow Jackets surprised the Panthers early, taking charge of the game and scoring the first tally of the contest 3:42 into the action off the stick of Quinn Ceasar to lead 1-0. However, the Panthers righted the ship and took control of the contest with back-to-back goals 17 seconds apart from Purdie, Jr. with nine minutes left in the first stanza. The Brown and Gold closed out the first quarter of action by outscoring AIC, 4-1, taking a 6-2 advantage into the second 15 minutes.

AIC again opened the scoring, finding the back of the Adelphi net 4:21 into the second quarter, but from there it was all Panthers. The Brown and Gold put 10 goals on the board in the final 10 minuntes of the first half, including scoring the final six goals, to take full control of the contest with a 16-4 lead halfway through the game. The final 30 minutes of the contest was more of the same for Adelphi, as the Panthers scored eight goals and gave up just three to walk away from Springfield with a 24-7 victory.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 12 when they welcome the College of Saint Rose on campus for a 1:00 pm Northeast-10 Conference contest on Motamed Field.

NOTES
- The Panthers are a combined 9-0 against AIC (6-0) and St. Rose (3-0), their next opponent.
- With two goals, Salvatore Tuttle has 149 career goals -- tying Wes Green (2003-06) for the program's all-time Division II total.
