Cory Stavis led the offense with a career-high seven goals.

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University senior Cory Stavis scored seven of the sixth ranked Panthers 13 goals, setting a new career-high and helping the Brown and Gold to a 13-7 victory over visiting Saint Rose on Motamed Field this afternoon. With the win, Adelphi improves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Golden Knights fall to 2-3 and 0-1 in conference play.

Stavis shattered his previous career-highs in points (4) and goals (3) in the victory, netting seven goals and totaled eight points. Gordon Purdie, Jr. continued his strong debut campaign, finding the back of the net four times, while Anthony DeLuca handed out three helpers. The only other Panther with more then one point on the day was Salvatore Tuttle, who was credited with two assists.

John English dominated the face-off "X" for Adelphi, winning 18 of 22 attempts and grabbing five ground balls. Anthony Gomes led all players with seven ground balls pick-ups, while Joe Giardina grabbed five loose balls. Giardina also led the defense with four caused turnovers in the win. Teammates Luke Spitzer and Shane Deboer caused three turnovers each and Michael Locicero was credted with two.

John McGrath played all 60 minutes in net for Adelphi, making two stops. He was credited with his fourth win of the season.

The Brown and Gold controlled the action in the first seven and a half minutes of the contest, led by Stavis, who found the back of the Golden Knight net four straight times. His final tally of the run came with 7:27 remaining in the first 15 mintues and put thet Panthers on top, 4-0. However, Saint Rose cut that margin in half with two goals in the final four minutes of play. Their second tally came with just 45 seconds on the clock off the stick of Matt Graham, 4-2.

The opening minutes of the second stanza was slow going, until Purdie, Jr. beat Saint Rose goalkeeper Liam Guiton with 8:06 to play. That seemed to get things started as the Golden Knights answered back just a minute later with a man-up goal, 5-3. The visitors crept within one goal, 5-4 with one minute remaining until intermission and would enter halftime trailing by that same margin, 6-5, after trading goals in the final 43 seconds.

Adelphi pulled control back from the Golden Knights in the third quarter of action, four of the five goals in the period to enter the final 15 minutes of game time with a 10-6 lead. The first two goals of the quarter came courtesy of Purdie, Jr. and Stavis and the final two came off the stick of Stavis.

The Panthers went on to out score the visitors, 3-1 in the final quarter, getting goal worthy efforts from Gomes, Purdie, Jr. and Travis Wahl, securing a 13-7 win.

The Brown and Gold will return to action on Tuesday, March 15 when they travel to Worchester, Massachusetts for a 4:00 pm meeting with Assumption College.
