Le Moyne Claims Game One of Weekend Series From Baseball, 6-3

Garden City, N.Y. - A complete game performance for visiting Le Moyne helped secure a 6-3 victory to open a three-game series against the Adelphi University baseball team earlier this afternoon. The game also marked the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both programs.

Damian Powers led the Dolphins (13-8/1-0 NE-10) to the win by tossing nine innings to earn his first victory of the season. The junior struck out four batters while allowing three runs and scattering nine hits. Offenseively, Brett Charbonneau knocked in two runs on two hits while Donato DiNorcia scored twice and Dylan Swetman registered two hits, a RBI, and a run scored.

Michael Cattani, Brett Malm, and Alex Zykoff each recorded two hits for the Panthers (9-9/0-1 NE-10) with Zykoff driving in two runs. Kory Cassara scored twice that included a solo homerun, his first of the season.

Cassara afforded the Brown and Gold a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with a one-out homerun. However, Le Moyne scored five runs throughout the next two innings to capture a 5-1 lead.

In the top of the third, the Dolphins put forth four hits that included a leadoff double from DiNorcia and a RBI single by Charbonneau. Swetman started the scoring in the fourth inning with a RBI single followed up by JT Pittman scoring on a groundout and Charbonneau knocking in his second run of the day with a sacrifice fly to center.

Zykoff looked to start a rally for the Panthers in the next half inning by driving in Cassara and Robert Vani with two-run single. However, a RBI single from Nick Place in the seventh and the performance from Powers gave the Dolphins the first league victory. After giving up the two runs in the fourth, Powers retired 15 of the final 17 batters that included a 5-4-3 double play in the eighth.

The series concludes tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled to start at noon on Bonomo Field.

Notes:
- Le Moyne sits in the sixth spot of the latest NCBWA East Region Poll while the Panthers rank ninth.
- The bullpen effort of John Thompson, Michael Ceparano, and Michael Demarest combined for five innings of work with one hit and no earned runs allowed.
