Garden City, N.Y. - A five-run third inning helped propel the Adelphi University baseball team to 10-3 victory against Philadelphia University earlier today at William J. Bonomo Field.
With a 2-2 game heading into the bottom of the third inning, the Panthers (9-8) scored five runs on five hits and an error in the frame to take a 7-2 lead. The inning started with back-to-back singles from
Zack Levinson and
Michael Cattani. Levinson put the Brown and Gold ahead 3-2 on a wild pitch, scoring from third.
After two outs were recorded, a fielding error during
Brandon Morse's at-bat allowed four more runs to score.
Robert Vani earned a RBI single in the inning while
Thomas Colombo notched two with a double to right center.
Allowing two runs on three hits in the second inning,
Ed Baram did not surrender a hit in any other inning to pick up the victory. The freshman recorded five 1-2-3 innings to earn his first win of the season while also lowering his ERA to a team best 2.60 (10 innings pitched minimum).
