Boca Raton, Fla. - Nine unanswered runs helped Lynn University take a 9-2 victory against the Adelphi University baseball team earlier this afternoon. The Fighting Knights, the 20th ranked team in the latest NCBWA National Poll, won both of ends of the two-day, two-game series.
After the Panthers (7-8) struck first with two runs in the top of the third inning, Lynn responded with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to claim the advantage and later add five more runs throughout the seventh and eighth innings towards the effort. Tyler Curtis led the host team with a 4-for-4 day that included two runs and one RBI while Eric Schindler tallied three hits and three runs. Donovan Armas pitched five innings in relief effort to earn his third win of the season, striking out six and scattering just three hits.
Thomas Colombo led the Brown and Gold with two hits on the afternoon.
Michael Stack registered a hit, a run, and a RBI while
Jonathan Iadevaia scored the other run.
Iadevaia led off the third inning for Adelphi with a single to center field. After Lynn made two outs and Iadevaia standing on third base, Stack drove in the freshman with a double to left field to put the Panthers ahead 1-0.
Brett Malm drove in Stack in the next at-bat to afford the Brown and Gold a 2-0 lead.
In the next half inning, the Knights logged six hits towards the four runs that included John Borup tying the game with a two-RBI double. Borup later scored on a single from John Silviano before Curtis drove in Silviano to make it 4-2 after three innings. Using five hits combined in the seventh and eighth innings, Lynn pushed the advantage to 9-2 with five insurance runs. However, Armas held the Adelphi lineup to just three hits from the fifth inning on to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.
Looking ahead, the Brown and Gold return to the Lynn University baseball field tomorrow to conclude the eight-game Florida Trip. The Panthers and the Owls of Southern Connecticut State face each other in a non-conference contest starting at 11:00 am.
Notes:- Tomorrow's meeting with the Owls will be the second of five meetings this season.
