Molloy Upends Baseball 17-5

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Adelphi University baseball team suffered its first loss of the 2016 Florida trip, falling 17-5 to Molloy earlier today at Lynn University.

After scoring a run in each of the second and third innings, the Lions (9-4) tallied six runs in the fourth inning to break open an 8-0 lead. During the frame, Molloy collected six hits and was also aided by two fielding errors from the Panthers (7-4).

Adelphi got on the board during the top of the sixth as Eric Hassell scored on an error after doubling to left centerfield with two outs in the inning. However, the Lions quickly repsonded again with three runs in both the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The Brown and Gold matched that output during the seventh inning with just two hits. Steven Withers picked up a RBI triple down the left field line to score Thomas Columbo. Withers scored on a wild pitch later in the inning followed by Jordan Milo notching a RBI single.

The Panthers added another score in the ninth, however, the deficit proved too large as the Lions closed out the 17-5 victory. Hassell led the effort at the plate for the Brown and Gold by going 2-for-2. Matthew O'Connor was the most effective on the mound, going 1.2 innings of work with no runs or hits allowed.

Adelphi returns to Lynn University tomorrow at 11:00 am to face Southern New Hampshire, the fourth game of this eight-game trip.
