Pace Jumps Out In Second Half To Upend Men's Basketball 82-74

New York, N.Y. - After a first half that featured several different runs from both teams, Pace outscored the Adelphi University men's basketball team by 11 points in the second half towards an 82-74 victory earlier this evening during Northeast-10 Conference play. The game was played at the Civic Center Gym on the New York City campus of Pace.

Tavon Ginyard led the effort for the Brown and Gold (17-6/9-6 NE-10) with season-high 23 points that included five 3-pointers and 8-for-8 shooting from the charity stripe to go along with five assists. Michael Coffey added 15 points while Jack Laffey and Anthony Libroia eached chipped in 12 points.

Bryan Rivers shots 10-for-14 from the field towards 28 points to lead all scorers for the Setters (9-14/5-9 NE-10) to go with six rebounds and three steals. Shelton Mickell contributed 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Pace shot 54.7 percent (29-for-53) from the floor and generated 10 fastbreak points in the winning effort.

Adelphi scored 17 unanswered points, capped off by a Laffey layup, after falling behind 13-7 to claim a 24-11 advantage midway through the first half. Not to be out done, the Setters created a 14-2 spurt to cut the deficit to one-point with 6:36 left in the half. Pace tied the score two minutes later at 31-31 to begin the first of four ties throughout the final five minutes.

Two lead changes towards the end of the first half culminated with Adelphi going into halftime in the lead by a score of 41-38. Ginyard generated his own 5-0 run to end the half by going 5-of-5 from the free throw line in the final 1:26. The freshman finished the half with 14 points to match the output of Rivers. Despite trailing at the half, the Setters shot 15-for-26 (57.7 percent) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

Luke McLaughlin gave Pace the lead for good at 45-44 less than three minutes into the second half, which was part of a 13-6 run to open the period for the Setters. Despite several pushes from the Brown and Gold, Pace built a lead to as large as 12 points and never let the margin become less than five points throughout the final 11 minutes.

The Setters created 12 points off turnovers in addition to eight fastbreak points in the final half. Additionally, Rivers matched his scoring from the first half to equally split his game-high 28 points.

The Panthers are back on the road this Saturday with a trip to Southern Connecticut to face the Owls in New Haven, Conn. at 3:30 pm.

Notes:
- Anthony Libroia surpassed 1,200 points this evening and is now alone in 20th on the Panthers' All-Time scoring list at 1,203 career points.
- Jack Laffey was named the NE-10 Rookie of the Week on Monday.
- Adelphi was ranked eighth in the latest D2SIDA Regional Poll.
